Out of the Club, into the Museum: Music as Installation
SNS is constantly thinking of new ways to present our mashup electronic performances. We’ve had the museum/gallery/art space idea in mind, and we’ve even tried the hotel lobby. Our general conclusion is that the artist must be prepared to perform in many different types of environments. This forces you to hone your craft in different ways.. some things work in the gallery space that will get overlooked in the club. I liked the ambiance of the hotel lobby experience in that we were creating a vibe, and it gave us the opportunity to get into the art for art’s sake, rather than catering to an audience (which personally I never like to do anyway). Performing in museums is especially all the rage at the moment.. and shouldn’t the museum be an appropriate place for musicians? I mean after all, we are creating living, breathing, art. There should be live musician wing in every museum – a place where one can go and see musicians create, not for an audience, but for themselves.. hmmm.
Late at Tate:
This is Bora Yoon at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music, not Brooklyn Art Museum) – an example of live music art.
